I am doing good for time this year. The portrait of Sam is now finished and just shipped out today. This is what the final portrait looks like.

Dog Portrait update

This dog portrait is coming along nicely. I still have more pet portraits to complete for Christmas so I better get down to drawing.

Portrait of Brother Richard

I rarely draw people but this was a special commission for a dear friend. This portrait is of Brother Richard whom is a faith healer and will be presented to him as a Christmas gift. I love the way this portrait was framed, using a cathedral type cut near the top (arch) and a beautiful laser cut cross below the drawing, in a beautiful metal frame...perfect for framing graphite artwork!

Sam update-Wheaten Terrier

Here is an update of Sam's portrait. I'm just starting to work on he messy looking fur. The soft-coated Wheaten terrier's coat has shades of caramel, especially on the back, legs and ears, vanilla and dark browns to black around the muzzle and eyes. Sam was described as a goofy character, as shown here with his tongue hanging out sideways.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Portrait

I've started drawing the sketch for a colored pencil drawing portrait of an adorable Wheaten called Sam. As soon as I can, I'll be posting updates of this teddy bear look-alike.

Japanese Akita Pencil Drawing

One of the Christmas commissions I've been working on. This dog portrait measures 14" x 18" and was created using graphite and charcoal pencils on smooth Bristol paper. Click here to view more: http://www.colettetheriault.com/descriptions/petdescriptions/Akita_drawing.php

More Christmas commissions

Gosh, this is sure a busy time of year! I have many more pet portraits to complete, most of which will be wrapped and tucked under the Christmas tree! I am presently working on a rather large group portrait of six percheron horses, a wheaten terrier, a kerry blue terrier, a japanese akita, a few cats and a special baby portrait for my cousin. I most likely won't be accepting any new Christmas commissions as I am already booking for the New Year.

New Illustration section, Medical and Anatomical

I've recently added a page on my website describing illustration work I've done. The most current project involved hundreds of anatomy drawings that were to be used for publication in a university text book about sports medicine. Cat and butterfly portrait

I've just recently completed yet another Christmas commission. It is a graphite pencil drawing featuring a beloved rescue cat relaxing in a field of dainty daisies.
The original reference photograph featured "Puppy" the cat resting on a webbing lawn chair.

A blog, finally!

Hi everyone!

While creating portraits of pets and animals takes much of my time, finding time to update my websites and marketing my art for example, are also very time consuming but necessary tasks for any serious artist. It is my intention to use this blog as a means of informing readers of current events, things to come, what I am doing in my art studio, etc... on a regular basis. Please bear with me as I learn the "art of blogging" and enjoy reading through my trials and tribulations I face as a pet portraitist and animal artist.

Best Wishes,

Colette
